The Two Captains

LOGBOOK

22 October 2000 Guayraca, Colombia 11*19.23N, 074*02.62W

If it seems to have been a little quiet on the two captains front, there are several reasons. The main one is that we have been lounging contentedly here in this very pretty bay. Our days have been filled with the little projects that have been allowed to slide for months, snorkeling excurions, noodling in company, and swapping recipes for tuna etc.

The secondary reason for lack of communication is that we had an equipment lockup! Our Pactor radio modem locked up for three days...no email in or out! Withdrawal was getting serious, and that's not even allowing for most of our readers feeling that we are in somewhat dicey territory. Fortunately, several other boats are similarly equipped so we actually had a message go out via one of them. Today, the Pactor magically unlocked itself. Moral of the story: if you don't hear from
us as often as you expect, don't assume the worst. We are dependent on some fancy technology, and equipment does like to put you in your place one in a while.

I had a pleasant birthday (I know all my birthday wishes are just waiting for me out there in cyberspace!!!!.) Don cooked breakfast and dinner. Yes it was a chloresterol extravaganza. Bacon and eggs to buffalo wings (thanks to Cost U Less in Curacao). He also baked a cake to share with our cruising buddies. Unfortunately, his eye wandered from one recipe version to another somewhere in the middle, so the end result would not have won any baking awards. Good thing about cruisers, they'll eat just about anything if it's free!

We have had a moderating trend in the weather begin, so the whole group is pretty much focused on heading out tomorrow...maybe even this afternoon. We'll see.
